Note:The EMSBackupArchiveTool can only be used to create Backups and Archives to an existing EMS Backup Database and to restore Archives.
The EMSBackupArchiveTool CANNOT restore Backups or create a new EMS Backup Database to backup and archive information to.

Admin Login

To gain access to the EMSBackupArchive Tool functionality, the User must provide the EMS Administrator User’s EMS Login credentials as follows:

1.In the windows Start menu or from the Windows Desktop, click on the EMSBackupArchiveTool icon. See Figure 1418 below:

2.The Administrator Login dialog will be displayed. See Figure 1419 below:

3.Enter the Administrator’s Login credentials.

4.Click OK.

Note:The Administrator Login will automatically log back out after 5 minutes of inactivity.

The EMS Archive Tool window is displayed. See Figure 1420 below:

From this window you can:

View the Archive Job Log.

Schedule or Edit an Archive/Backup Job.

Viewing the Archive Job Log

To View the Archive Job Log:

Click on the Archive Job Log button on the EMSArchive Tool window. See Figure 1420 above.

The Archive Job Log window is displayed, showing a list of Archive and Backup Jobs that have been run by the System. See Figure 1421 below:

By default, the Archive/Backup Job at the top of the window’s table will be highlighted. If this Job is a Backup Job (as opposed to an Archive Job) the window’s Start Restore and Run Restore buttons will be greyed out as Backup Restores cannot be carried out by the EMSBackupArchiveTool.

Check boxes in Archive and Archive Restore columns of the Archive Job Log table show whether a particular Archive or Backup Job has been Archived and whether the Archive/Backup has been Restored.

To Schedule or Edit an Archive/Backup Job

Click on the Schedule button on the EMSArchive Tool window. See Figure 1420 above.

The Archive Schedule window is displayed. See Figure 1422 below:

To Create a New Scheduled Archive or Backup Job

1.Click the New button in the Archive Schedule window.

2.The Archive Entry dialog will be displayed. See Figure 1423 below:

3.Enter the required settings.

Note:When creating a new Archive/Backup Job, make sure that a unique name is entered into the Archive/Backup name: field to prevent existing Archives/Backups being overwritten.

4.Click Accept to save the changes.

To Edit an Existing Scheduled Archive or Backup Job

1.Select the required Archive/Backup Job by selecting/highlighting its entry in the Archive Schedule window.

2.Click on the Edit button in the Archive Schedule window.

3.The Archive Entry dialog will be displayed, showing the selected Archive/Backup Job's details. See Figure 1424 below:

4.Edit the displayed settings as required.

5.Click Accept to save the changes.

Starting an Archive or Backup Job

To Asynchronously Start an Archive or Backup Job

1.Select the required Archive/Backup job by checking its adjacent box in the Archive column of the Archive Schedule window. See Figure 1425 below:

2.Click the Start Job button to start the Archiving or Backup.

The Job will now run as a Background Task and complete with no further action on the part of the User.

The EMSBackupArchive Tool can now be closed down and the Archiving or Backup will continue to run. This can be useful for running jobs on EMS systems with large amounts of data.

Running an Archive or Backup Job

To Run an Archive or Backup Job and Wait for the Result

1.Select the required Archive/Backup Job by checking its adjacent box in the Archive column of the Archive Schedule window. See Figure 1426 below:

2.Click on the Run Job button.

The Start Job dialog will be displayed. See Figure 1427 below:

3.Click Yes start the Job, or No to cancel.

The System will run the selected Archive/Backup Job; displaying the Please Wait dialog, whilst the Archive/Backup Job runs. See Figure 1428 below:

Once the Archive/Backup Job has completed, the results will be displayed in a message box. See Figure 1429 below:

4.Click OK to finish.

Creating Archive and Backups Using the EMSConfig Utility

Archive/Backup operations are accessed from the EMSConfig Utility Archive drop-down menu. See Figure 1430 below:

In both cases, the user must provide the EMS Administrator's Login Credentials to gain access to the full set of Archive menu items.

Admin Login

To gain access to the full set of Archive menu items, the user must provide the EMS Administrator User’s EMS login credentials.

1.From the Archive drop-down menu, select Admin Login. See Figure 1430 above.

The Administrator Login dialog is displayed. See Figure 1431 below:

2.Enter the Administrator’s Login Credentials.

3.Click OK.

Note:The Administrator Login will automatically log back out after 5 minutes of inactivity on the Archive menu and the Schedule/Archive Job Log menu items will become greyed out again.

Scheduling Jobs

Archive/Backup jobs are added, edited and/or viewed from the Archive Schedule dialog. See Figure 1432 below.

To access the dialog, select Schedule from the Archive menu. See  1430 above.

Create a New or Edit a Scheduled Job

1.Click the New button.

2.The Archive Entry dialog will be displayed. See Figure 1433 below.

3.Enter the required settings..

4.Click Accept to save the changes.

2.Click on the Edit button.

3.The Archive Entry dialog will be displayed.

4.Edit the required settings and click Accept to save the changes.

Starting an Archive or Backup Job

After clicking Yes, the System will run the selected Archive/Backup Job; displaying the Please Wait dialog whilst the Archive/Backup Job runs. See Figure 1436 below:

Once the Archive/Backup Job has completed, the results will be displayed in a message box. See Figure 1437 below:

4.Click OK to finish.

Archive/Backup Job Log

Archive/Backup Job results are viewed, and archived data restored, from the Archive Job Log dialog. See Figure 1438 below.

To access this dialog, select Archive Job Log from the Archive menu.

The Archive Job Log dialog displays a list of Archive and Backup Jobs that have been run by the System.

Archive/Backup Jobs can be selected by clicking on the required entry.
